Is this a bunch of BS or is this guy Mark Hopkins claiming the real thing? Apparently he has a Google insider who says that the widely rumored GPhone is a “solid confirmation”
He said that the Google (applications) Suite is going to play a huge role in the usability of the GPhone, and the thought process behind it’s functionality is less about beating the iPhone and more about beating the $100 Laptop, which provides a huge clue behind what will be the pricing structure on this…regarding the two week timetable on it’s release, he said he could not confirm that part of the story.
Assuming all this is true it sounds like they are trying to beat the $100 laptop. As we all know the problem with the “One Laptop Per Child” program is the fact that internet connectivity is pretty dismal in most of the developing countries. Therefore the strategy bodes well for Google to take advantage of the cellular networks in these countries and serving up text ads on the device monetizes the effort. Tightly integrating Google Apps. to the phone is where I find it little difficult to comprehend. I mean using a phone to type documents or work on a spreadsheet ? C’mon lets get real.
I’ll believe this when I see it announced on the official Google blog!
