Putin to Dell: We’re Not Morons!

Someone woke up on the wrong side of bed in Davos this morning! Vladimir Putin the Russian Prime Minister at the World Economic Forum, decided to take some questions after his speech to his fellow attendees. Michael Dell after praising Russia’s technical and scientific prowess asked a question “How can we help” you to expand IT in Russia. Apparently Putin was offended by the question and according to Fortune

Putin’s withering reply to Dell: “We don’t need help. We are not invalids. We don’t have limited mental capacity.” The slapdown took many of the people in the audience by surprise. Putin then went on to outline some of the steps the Russian government has taken to wire up the country, including remote villages in Siberia. And, in a final dig at Dell, he talked about how Russian scientists were rightly respected not for their hardware, but for their software. The implication: Any old fool can build a PC outfit.

Hmmm software from Russia… Let’s see, there’s Tetris and …. well Sergey Brin came to Stanford and then founded Google so we can’t count him. So what triggered Putin’s angry response? Perhaps it was these words that led to the question …

” You spoke of the dangers of excessive government involvement, and I found myself struck by this comment and surprised to hear that comment. 6 months ago I would have never imagined hearing this comment from yourself”.

Ouch! that probably did get his (Putin’s) blood boiling! :) Here is the video …
